When Should I Get New Windows?

If you are having some problems with your windows, it can be tempting to buy new ones. However, new windows can be pretty expensive. In order to make sure you really need new windows, there are several factors to be considered.

Functionality: Do they open/close, lift/slide, and swing easily, or is a fight to perform any of these functions? If you have a crank shaft to open and close the window, you can look into replacing it instead of the window itself. You can also look at replacing the hinges. 

Condensation: Does condensation build up on your windows? Are your windows cloudy and/or foggy? Do you get a lot of moisture on the window trim along with condensation on the window? If so, it is time to get new windows. High efficiency glass in windows helps to avoid these problems.

Window Trim: If you have wooden trim around your windows, has it rotted? If so, it’s time to get new windows, unless you want to keep replacing the wooden trim.

Temperature: When it is cold outside, is it pretty chilly in your house? When it is hot and sunny outside, does it feel too warm? New double pane glass windows help to keep your rooms a comfortable temperature.

Cleaning: Is it so difficult to clean your windows that you avoid doing it? Most new windows are designed to make cleaning them much easier.

New windows can be expensive, but if you are having some of the above problems it will be well worth the cost to you.
