Roofing Replacement: When Is It Time?

Roofing replacement can be a big job and can be expensive depending upon the type of roof you want.  Most people replace their roof as needed, but how do you know when a new roofing job is needed?  There are two places you need to check and see if you need a new roof.

The exterior is one place you need to check out, so get ready to go up to your roof.   Some things to look out for are bald, blistering, buckling, curling, loose, rotting, torn, or missing shingles.  If you live in a humid climate you will also want to check for dark green stains on the shingles (algae growth).   If you see at least a few of these problems it is a good idea to have a roofing specialist come and take a look.  They can help you determine if you need just replace some shingles or if you need a complete roofing replacement.

The interior is another place to look at, so get ready to go up to your attic.  One big thing to look out for is lots of light coming through.  Also, look for any signs of leakage or water damage.   Inspect the whole roof deck and see if there are any areas that are sagging.  If you see any of these things when looking in your attic, you need to call a roofing specialist to perform an assessment.        

It is a good idea to check both of these places a couple of times a year so you will know when it is time for roofing replacement or repair.
