Fixing a roof is a job best left to the professionals, and your typical homeowner can often be overwhelmed by the staggering amount of roofing companies out there all vying for their business.  So how can you sort through all the options, making sure you have the best value and quality for your hard-earned dollar?  Here are some simple questions to ask roofing companies before you sign their contract for work.

First of all, find out from roofing companies how they operate, whether they have employees or hire subcontractors.  Find out what parts of the job will be handled by whom and which jobs will be handled by outsiders.

Next, check out the company history – how long they’ve been in business and what previous customers have to say about their work.  Roofing companies that have been in business a long time have been so because they’re the best at what they do.

Ask about work schedules and time frames for completion of the project, as well as when workers’ hours will be throughout the job.  If there are going to be delays for any reason, find out who will let you know about them if they arise.

Be sure to also ask about workers’ compensation and liability insurance, and not just whether they have it – ask for the number and organization they’re insured with.  Then contact the corresponding agency to confirm the eligibility of the roofing company.
