How to Save the Environment AND Your Money with Energy Efficient House Windows

In 2013, families are going to be looking for even more ways to save money around the home.  From cutting back on electronic use to curbing the air conditioner, it’s the little things that can add up to big savings.  Unfortunately what most of us don’t realize is that leaky and inefficient doors and windows can account for up to 25% of a home’s energy bill over the course of the year.  With rising energy costs, this can be a big chunk of money for your average family.  Fortunately there is an effective and relatively cheap way to save you money on the replacement of your house windows – you just need to know what to look for.

At a minimum, energy efficient house windows should have double-pane insulated glass and a heat-resistant glass coating (Low-E being your best bet).  You should also take frame material into consideration by choosing either vinyl or fiberglass.  They’re great at reducing heat transfer and are generally a low-cost, energy saving option.
